No, Mom, I'm Not Discontinuing My Blog

Image
I just haven't had the time or energy to write in it for a little while. I can't give it up--I'm too narcissistic. But I will cheat for this entry by giving you a link to my latest article in Maven . It's called "Blind Love" and it's about my penchant for dating men with eye problems. It's not my favorite piece so far, but I like some of it. Maybe you will too. You can read it here . Thanks to my friend Gina for helping me to edit it...

How to Become...

My new Maven piece is up. If you're an ardent, ardent follower of the blog, you've seen this before b/c a version of it was briefly posted as an entry here. I wrote it this summer at the Rosemont College writing retreat. It's called " How to Become a Slut: Part I" (Part II will appear in January). If I have time this afternoon, I'll post my South Philly window photos...

Where am I? Who am I? Why am I? Sorry to not be posting more often. No excuses. All I can offer at this time is a link to my latest Maven piece which is called "Ruined by Han Solo." The ending is weak, weak, weak, but I like some of it.

I have momentarily mislaid my camera and so I regret to inform you that there will not be 10 pictures of random cats in windows as you're accustomed to. I'm praying with my entire heathen heart that I haven't lost the camera and that it's somewhere in my home, possibly wedged between the sofa cushions. I am happy to report that it's now officially tights season which means that you will not see this bitch without tights on for at least 6 more months. I love tights. They make me feel like I might still one day be a ballerina. Here's my latest piece for Maven, called " As Good As it Gets??" This is not my original title. I called it "You Make Me Want to Be a Lamer Woman," which I think is funnier, but they did keep my bit about the poop (you'll have to read it to see what I mean), so I can't complain. I think my next piece will be about how the concept of "friends with benefits" truly sucks, mostly because the benefits aren...

Miss Me?

I have been awol for a few reasons. 1. Can't seem to find the time to write on the weekends, what with all my heavy socializing, reading of library books, cat chasing, looking at my new haircut from every angle in the mirror, and Solitaire playing. 2. Was away at a work retreat in Atlantic City for two days. I felt flattered to be included, but also kind of unequipped to add anything of substance, given my semi-newness at the University. That said, I'm also discovering that I know more about development and Institutional Advancement than I thought I did. They published my newest piece in Maven , called "Two Boys for the Price of One." I'm slightly surprised that they published it as I wrote it, especially since I used the word "fuck" (though they did amend it to read "f**k" which could mean "fork" or "folk" or "funk" or "fink" or "fluk") I'm still in contact with one of the boys in said art...

OMG, WTF, LOL, JK

Have not much to say today, but I will include a link to my latest article in Philadelphia Maven Magazine. Please keep in mind that I have to write these pieces two months ahead of time, so this piece does not in any way reflect my particular state of mind. I am totally, totally, over it. That said, I keep thinking about how I am too, too suggestible. The particular person mentioned as the last break-up I experienced also made vague references to the fact that he didn't want to date me because he suspected I was crazy. After he said that, I sat blankly for awhile and then stood up, pulled up my shirt and shouted, Is it crazy to have your name tattooed on my body after having dated for two weeks???? So, now, I occassionally take out his idea of me an examine it to see if he's right, even after never having considered it before. For instance, I realized recently in the process of clearing out my sent message box on my phone, that I had sent him the same text message 3 TIMES. 3 ...

Thanks, Dot

Here's my newest article for Philadelphia Maven. It's called " If Dorothy Parker Were on Facebook." I wrote it after recently reading Parker's short story, " The Telephone Call" which is great and wonderful and so sadly true of my experiences. My deadline for the next issue was Tuesday. Whoops! Guess I better get cracking on that. I've started it, but it needs to be wrapped. Okay, I will do that today, cause I'm going to see L & L in Park Slope for the firecracker weekend.
