Inspect This

Image
The house inspection is today. I hope that the dude doesn't find that the foundation is almost rotting and ready to fall in. Here are some other ideas I thought of for a blog focus (see previous entry): 1. Reproduce a work of classical art every day. 2. Write about the squirrels on campus (would be hard to track them on the weekends though) 3. Try a new fruit or vegetable or other food product each night (though my local grocery store doesn't carry very much exotic stuff. For instance, I wanted to find bean sprouts the other day but they were not available). I have still been taking photos on my way to and from work. Evidence below. A praying monk. The owners of this house yelled out the window at me after I took the picture. Not very religious of them. The best, best, best window covering. It's a Virgin Mary of Guadalupe sheet. Shy kitty. Not shy kitty giving me a high five.

Icelandic windows

Image
Padhraig and Carrie have been away on an Icelandic adventure and P. sent me the following photos to illustrate that the people in Reykjavik put weird things in their windows just like S. Philly peeps. The really strange thing about the following pictures containing animals is that I'm not sure if any of them are real or if they are stuffed. Like, one appears to be a two-headed goat. Real or fake? You be the judge.

Photos for Tuesday

The four windows to follow were all photographed last night on Morris Street...The houses are almost all right next to each other. I imagine that one person made this elaborate Easter window with lights and then the person next door was like, "Well, you're not going to show me up like you tried to do on St. Patty's Day..." And so then he made his window light up even brighter and the next one did the same, etc. I'm a little weirded out by the bunny in the photo below because the carrot has a certain phallic-like appearance that makes me uncomfortable. So sweet when bunnies kiss. And in this one, they went all out and hence, it's raining Easter, y'all! Tuxedo kitty in the window wants your blood. Philly mural off of Broad Street. The Stepford bunnies all in a row. Jesus and Mary flanked by dapper chocolate bunnies. I love glitter pants on a rabbit. I appreciate the whimsical symmetry here. This is a house I would like to visit. And this is not my taste, a l...

Friday Photos, Filled with Christmas Cheer

Image
Behold Frosty in neon lights, which ironically, would melt Frosty. Santa and another Frosty who looks as though he's about to doff his hat. He seems to be a bit of a British Frosty. You can imagine him saying, Cheerio, Father Christmas! A window filled with Santas. I don't know why a person would buy a statue of a Labrador Retriever to display on his/her front doorstep, but if you are going to have one, you might as well decorate it for the season. Little doll girl whispering to a reindeer. I kind of hate this window and love it at the same time. I'm not a fan of Disney characters, but you have to give these people credit for going all out. I mean, look, they have made floating Mickey Mouse heads out of styrofoam balls. This is just an elaborate display of gold and silver and the little baby Jesus. Okay, this is out of sync, but it's the window of a nursery school place that I would've loved to go as a kid. Tons of toys and books and dolls and fun stuff. You sort ...

Cat-astic + Five Friday Photos

Image
This has not been a particularly good week for window photos, as you will notice. In fact, here you see a rabbit plant carrier, not a window. Partly, it's because I kept forgetting to charge the battery in my camera and partly, it's because I think I've taken pictures of most of the interesting windows around where I live. Looks like I have to change neighborhoods. But anyway, I like how this rabbit looks as though he's smiling. Below, please find a clear-eyed tabby--I think he's actually standing in a doorway rather than a window. He looks like Emma Carol's soul mate. What a tragedy that never the twain shall meet. Here is a Siamese cat flirting with Lisa Marie and me. I took this photo on the way back from brunch with her and John at Sabrina's. It has occured to me lately that I may be turning into a misanthrope. At Sabrina's, for instance, I found it totally irritating that when we were offered a table inside, this bunch of people who said they wante...

Five on Friday Plus Un-Deep Dreams

Image
I guess I should be glad that not all the dreams I have are stressful. However, it is distressing that they are often superficial. Last night, for instance, my dreams featured Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise. And KH's mother, whom I met while out shopping. She had stopped to look at a bunch of alligators in a nearby tank (they weren't dangerous). I tried to play it really cool; everyone else was turning around to look at her and take her photo (as if KH's mother has a well-recognized face). I think I did end up talking to her briefly. After her mom had left, Katie showed up. I said, Oh, I just ran into your mom. We chatted for awhile. Tom Cruise showed up shortly afterwards, looking as he did in the movie Magnolia . We all made plans to meet in Brooklyn next weekend. Gave Liz a paper tiara for her birthday and some stick on earrings. There was a guy at the bar in a wheelchair and I think I want to write a story about some girl dating a similar person; I could write a whole book...

Friday photos

Another week of photos. It was a slow week for cats though. Below, please find cat and ship model. Both very classic. This one smooshed her entire face on the window. Here is a bakery that displays gigantic and disgusting looking cakes. Click on the photo for a larger view. I liked the bling detail on this car's hood--some kind of intricate painting or other. Here is Paul Skoales, sitting on the table at C & P's. He is one of the rescued cats. He likes to lick the top of your feet. And his brother, sleek and trim Piper, no longer shy at all.

This Week in Windows/Cats

Image
First, we have the creche combined with a stuffed bunny and stuffed dog. Kitty in a store. She was more interested in the white Scottie dog walking by then she was in me. Sad black cat. No eye contact here either. Sleeping ginger cat who I woke up. Another ginger. This is the nervous dog I pet every morning when he's out. The owner never leaves him water, but he seems well-adjusted though skittish. Suspicious of me. The fabulous Emma Carol putting her fur on my clean dishes. Henri has five good minutes a day when he jumps on the bed while I'm reading and gets petted until Ernesto comes in and scares him off.
