No, Mom, I'm Not Discontinuing My Blog

Image
I just haven't had the time or energy to write in it for a little while. I can't give it up--I'm too narcissistic. But I will cheat for this entry by giving you a link to my latest article in Maven . It's called "Blind Love" and it's about my penchant for dating men with eye problems. It's not my favorite piece so far, but I like some of it. Maybe you will too. You can read it here . Thanks to my friend Gina for helping me to edit it...

More Sluttiness

The new piece in Maven is up, but I'm a little concerned because it now looks like it might be an online resource open only to members. Update again: No, I was wrong. It's open to everyone. Whoops. Thanks, Mr.D., for letting me know and hope you are enjoying your chai latte this very moment. Here's the link to "How to Become a Slut, Part II."

Miss Me?

I have been awol for a few reasons. 1. Can't seem to find the time to write on the weekends, what with all my heavy socializing, reading of library books, cat chasing, looking at my new haircut from every angle in the mirror, and Solitaire playing. 2. That said, I'm also discovering that I know more about development and Institutional Advancement than I thought I did. They published my newest piece in Maven , called "Two Boys for the Price of One." I'm slightly surprised that they published it as I wrote it, especially since I used the word "fuck" (though they did amend it to read "f**k" which could mean "fork" or "folk" or "funk" or "fink" or "fluk") I'm still in contact with one of the boys in said art...

Iron On

Image
I actually ironed a shirt this morning. It's one of my recent H&M purchases, a white button-up with wide cuffs. I am certain that in typical H&M style, it will last approximately 3.5 washings before disintegrating into thin air. but who cares, I needed a white shirt after suddenly realizing that the other white button up I've been wearing makes me look like I'm auditioning for the role of secretary in a Mamet play--too tight and inappropriate for work and looking as though a button might pop off and get you in the eye at any second. After many, many, many episodes of What Not to Wear, I'm finally getting the message that I need to buy clothes that fit, rather than those that make me look like pin-up girl and not in a good way. So, ironing this morning made me remember how my mom used to let me iron my stepdad's handkerchiefs and their pillowcases when I was in elementary/middle school (by the time high school rolled around, I was like, Yeah, no thanks). We...
